We organize major events for FET researchers to present their ideas and connect them in person with investors, industry stakeholders and other members of the BRIEFING innovation ecosystem. A 2-day onsite matchmaking and onsite training will take place during our two-day event in Budapest. 

 On April 6 participants will have the opportunity to have a deep-dive into the topic of industry collaboration during a one-day classroom workshop. This Operational Technology Transfer and Collaboration with Industry training will provide useful insights into commercialization possibilities. After the workshop participants will have the opportunity to get prepared for next day’s matchmaking with the assistance of our communication experts. 

On April 7 participants will get free entrance to the SMART Conference, the biggest IT/digital convention in CEE.  


The event provides visibility and dissemination opportunities for their FET/EIC Pathfinder project:

  • FET/EIC Pathfinder researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry parters and present their results to business stakeholders.
  • Industry members perform a reverse pitch giving insight of their view of innovation 
  • Researchers participate at one-to-one discussions with industry representatives based on their specific research topics
You will:
  • Present your pitch, polished on the previous day
  • Share your experiences of commercialization journey with industry stakeholders via panel discussion
  • Learn the way-of-thinking of investors, R+Đ practicioners, and industrial innovation experts
  • Meet and exchange ideas with fellow FET Researchers 

About the Event

 SMART conference – ‘In Digital We Trust’ 

 This conference is the meeting platform for business, technology and innovation. It is the largest in Hungary focusing on B2B innovation organized by IVSZ for the11th time in Budapest.  

The participants come from corporations, SMEs, Industry 4.0 SMEs, investors, start-ups and universities. Different industries are represented.  

 In 2020 the main topics of the conference are: 

  • Innovating the human body and mind 
  • Challengers and challengees 
  • Battle for the user and the data  

During the afternoon the participating FET/EIC Pathfinder projects will have one-on-one meetings – speed dating – with relevant business representatives to discuss cooperation opportunities and gain direct feedback.  

Draft Program

A special section is dedicated for the FET/EIC Pathfinder projects.  FET project representatives present a brief introduction of their results for the relevant industry representatives.  Then industry members give a reverse pitch about what they are looking for when searching for innovation opportunities.  A Q&A section follows with a discussion with the presenters and the audience.  

10:00 to 11:00 – Presentations of the projects and Q&A  

11:00 to 11:15 – Coffee break 

11:00 to 12:00 – Reverse pitch and Q&A 

12:00 to 13:00 – Lunch 

13:00 to 16:00 – Bilateral one-on-one meetings of FET projects with potential industry partners (Speed dating) moderated by innomine 

You will also have the opportunity to check the possibilities of alternative financing opportunities. A section of the conference will cover the results of the Altfinator H2020 project.

Connections:  Liszt Ferenc Budapest Airport  is accessible directly by Bus 100E (Deák Ferenc station) in cca. 45 minutes. There is no direct metro or train connection from the airport.  Shuttle Buses are a more comfortable, cheap and reliable option to access the airport. They can be booked directly at the airport or online: https://www.minibud.hu/?lang=en  

Taxi: always look out for the official yellow cabs, and make sure, that the meter is running. Uber unfortunately does not operate in Hungary.  

Public transport: Budapest has an extensive network of trams, buses night buses and trolleybuses. SMART location is just in the middle of the most well-connected part of the city.  

  • Underground: Metro lines 1 (Yellow), 2 (Red), 3 (Blue) (Deák Ferenc station) 5 minutes on foot  
  • Tramway:  47, 49 (Deák Ferenc station)  
  • Buses: 9, 105 (Deák Ferenc station)    

Accomodation : The 5th district of Budapest is the heart of the capital, in many respects it is the administrative, office, commercial and tourist center of Budapest and Hungary.  

AirBnB offers several affordable apartments just 5 minutes walk from the venue. 

Hotels: Booking.com offers several hotels in the city center.

Travel, accommodation and subsistence costs can be reported as project cost for running FET projects.
